Requiem for a Dream is another book I picked up after seeing the movie. The first time I saw the film I was blown away by how it ended. I'm not sure it was such a dramatic ending so much as different from what Hollywood Inc. has conditioned us to expect. While most books are better than their corresponding movies, directory Darren Aronofsky followed the original quite closely. Requiem is the story of four people living in Brooklyn. Three are young with big plans for the future. But their next heroin fix always gets just a little more importance than making any forward progress with their lives. The fourth is the mother of one of them and becomes obsessed with getting on television. She starts taking diet pills towards this end. You can read the book to find out how they end up.
