Dreams of Witches originated as a Kickstarter back at the start of the Lockdown.  Not sure why the book was suggested to me, but I’ve always had an interest in “secret knowledge”.  Like the hand-copied medieval manuscripts I saw in Name of the Rose movie or in an X-files episode.  Plus Wicca (as told by Wiccans) never advocated exterminating entire populations the way Old Testament religions do.

The Kickstarter project was to complete and publish the book.  There must have been some issues along the way as it took upwards of two years to deliver actual a copy.  At the beginning the book talks about the New Forest Coven in Highcliffe [England], which formed in the 1930s.  At first, I thought it was going to be the story of the group.  But “Dream’s of Witches” is really a collection of excerpts from other books about or adjacent to Wicca.  More than anything it made me think I should check out some of the books cited.

What is amazing about Dreams of Witches in the quality of the book itself.  The thick paper exudes substance.  The binding is top notch.  The built-in cloth bookmark always lays flat between the pages. While published by Black Letter Press, the printing was done by Grafiche Veneziane in Venice.  I can easily envision this book being around 400 years from now, provided no Old Testament religions set it on fire.  Not that there would be any reason to do so,  but people are not always motivated by reason.
