Archer is an animated series on FX about an independent spy organization. The main character is handsome, impossibly lucky, bordering on being an idiot, and definitely a misogynist. Before mentioning that I watch the series to friends, I usually preface with "the show has no socially redeeming value". That pulls down the bar before they can judge me. The characters say and do outrageous and often horrific things and the show is a hoot. The one truly capable spy at the agency is voiced by comedian Aisha Tyler, who in real life plays video games, reads comics books, and is beyond hot. All engineers are honor-bound to support her career. I added the book to a recent Amazon order solely because I like the show.
Now Archer is an arrogant ass in the series, and maintains that same persona in the book. It is a bit much, and you wouldn't tolerate such nonsense if you weren't already a fan of the show. The sections are short, perfect for reading in the bathroom. I do think they foot-note too much. Expect at least one per page. The notes seem to interrupt the flow, as Archer bounces around in the main text. There is a huge section on cocktails, but they aren't that different from any cocktail book. But there is what appears to be the greatest Eggs Benedict recipe in history, though its called Eggs Woodhouse. And, the chapter "Archer Sutra" made me laugh out loud. Be sure to turn those pages in order. I recommend you save your money and borrow a copy from a friend, then go see Aisha Tyler live. Unless you are worried about the fact everyone probably first read it in the bathroom.
